My Dad lives in LA, and Tu Madre is his absolute favorite spot. It has become routine that we go together whenever I am in town. It never fails! Food is always delicious and fresh, and you cant go without the elote. Service is super friendly and attentive. I always feel welcomed with each visit; like my feedback and experience truly matters to the staff. Of course its a bonus that the inside is TOTALLY aesthetically pleasing....

Tu Madre is an aesthetic LA spot to get fusion tacos. Out of the 3 tacos I got here, the vegan one was the best?! *shocked face* Surprised that they had so many vegan options so bring your herbivore homies. Although we didn't dine in, the interior gave off Tulum vibes and looked like an exciting first date spot or a place to drink / snack with your gal pals. My tacos came with some nice and crispy tortilla chips. Mmm. brisket taco: 3.5/5 nothing special chicken al pastor taco: 3/5 just ok?? forgettable mushroom taco: 5/5 whoa whoa shredded, savory, saucy mushroom with the fresh mint, thai basil, and pickled fresno chili packed in a corn tortilla?! incredible. Tons of places to get tacos at in LA but I'd def go here again for the flavorful and fire vegan tacos (9 options.. Nine!!) And so my hunt for unique and delicious tacos continues..

The location and setup of the restaurant were top-notch. We felt like we had walked into a magazine spread--everything looked perfect at first glance. However, the staff and chef gave off strong "I'd rather be anywhere else" vibes, reminiscent of teenagers at a family reunion or cats during a bath. The food quality was acceptable, not life-changing but not something to write a sonnet about either. It was the kind of meal you'd describe as "fine" while shrugging noncommittally. Meanwhile, the tables seemed to be in a committed relationship with crumbs and smudges, which was a bit of a turn-off. We played a fun game of "What Was That Sticky Spot From?" but couldn't solve the mystery. On the bright side, the music was fantastic and the atmosphere lively. It felt like being at a party you weren't quite sure you were invited to but decided to enjoy anyway. The DJ definitely knew what they were doing, making it hard not to tap our feet and bob our heads. With a bit of elbow grease to improve cleanliness and a touch more love in the food, this place could easily earn a five-star rating. It's like a student with potential who just needs to apply themselves. Until then, we'll keep our visits sporadic and our hand sanitizer close.

Ambiance is so cool- patio with greenery on the back and beautiful decor inside. Some really different tacos- I had a Korean Q and a Banh Mih taco which were full of complex flavors on some good homemade tortillas. Their table water was interesting- with mint and edible flowers infused in. Carne asada nachos w queso fresco and fresh jalapeños was excellent as well. Only reason it was not 5 stars is that we put our order in and then 3 minutes later they passed out the happy hour menus that would have saved us like 30% on our tab. Pretty wack that they didn't inform us. As a waiter, if I saw a family of four order nachos and tacos that all all on our happy hour menu, and happy hour starts in few minutes, I might mention that. Would definitely return, especially after 3:01 pm.
